Lawson Legal is an experienced Perth law firm, comprising criminal defence lawyers, specialising exclusively in criminal law and serious traffic matters. The principal defence lawyer, Mr Richard Lawson, studied criminology and worked within the criminal justice system in Canada for 10 years before studying criminal law in Perth commencing in 1992.
Richard Lawson is an experienced defence lawyer, practising criminal law in Perth and regional Western Australia. He has a solid reputation and track record, within the criminal justice system, developed from his rigorous training in law.
Richard completed a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) followed by a Master of Laws (LLM) at The University of Western Australia. During this academic period, Richard was self-employed as an academic legal consultant responsible for formulating and lecturing various law courses at tertiary institutions, within the greater Perth area.
Upon being admitted as a barrister and solicitor in Perth, Richard initially practised as a State prosecutor with the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions for Western Australia. He was employed in that position for four and a half years before establishing a Perth-based criminal law firm as a defence lawyer.
As a Perth criminal lawyer, he has conducted numerous criminal trials and sentencing hearings in the Supreme, District, and Magistrates Courts of Western Australia.
Ms Michelina Lawson has been the practice manager of Lawson Legal for over 10 years. She is responsible for the administration of the firm including all financial and business activities. Michelina also manages all correspondence and maintenance of the office to ensure full compliance is adhered to.
Prior to this position, Michelina was employed within the public sector for over 20 years in senior management positions. In addition, she also was a sole trader providing financial assistance to local businesses, including strategic and operational planning, to achieve desired outcomes.
In addition to having earned a Bachelor of Business degree, Michelina is fluent in Italian and is in the process of compiling a cookbook of foods from the Mediterranean region, with an emphasis on history and culture.
Ms Lea Notte is a mature-aged law student who is currently reading for a Bachelor of Laws degree at Murdoch University Law School, where she is focusing on criminal law.
Lea possesses 10 years work experience in the community services sector of the State government promoting the rights of young people around tenancy and life style choices. Lea’s advocacy skills have ensured the immediate needs of young people are met holistically in a fair and just manner. Her experience has enabled her to effectively conduct negotiations and mediations with stakeholders to secure rational and practical solutions for her clients.
In addition to being engaged as a paralegal with Lawson Legal, Lea also volunteers at Sussex Street Community Law Service. She enjoys the wide range of legal matters and the diverse collection of challenging clients.
It is anticipated that, upon completion from her legal studies, Lea will continue to enjoy employment with Lawson Legal in the capacity of a junior legal practitioner.
