The principal defence lawyer, Mr Richard Lawson, studied criminology and worked within the criminal justice system in Canada for 10 years. Richard was responsible for managing offenders (adults and juveniles) in group homes, secure psychiatric facilities and halfway houses.
In 1992, Richard began his studies in criminal law in Perth, Western Australia. He completed a Bachelor of Laws (LLB), followed by a Master of Laws (LLM), at The University of Western Australia. During this academic period of six years, Richard was self-employed as an academic legal consultant responsible for formulating and lecturing various law courses at tertiary institutions within the greater Perth area.
Upon being admitted as a barrister and solicitor in Perth, Richard initially practised as a State prosecutor with the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions for Western Australia. He was employed in that position for four and a half years before establishing a Perth-based criminal law firm as a defence lawyer.
Richard Lawson is now an experienced defence lawyer, practising criminal law in Perth and regional Western Australia. He has conducted numerous criminal trials and sentencing hearings in the Supreme, District, and Magistrates Courts of Western Australia.
With over 25 years of legal experience, Richard is a highly-regarded Perth criminal lawyer. He has a solid reputation and track record within the criminal justice system, developed from his rigorous training in law.
Ms Alana Taylor is a lawyer at Lawson Legal and practices solely in criminal law matters.
Alana initially completed a Bachelor of Social Science degree from Edith Cowan University focussing on mental health issues within Western Australian society.
In 2016, Alana earned a Juris Doctor degree from Murdoch University School of Law. On the 1st of November 2017, Alana was admitted as a lawyer in the Supreme Court of Western Australia.
Prior to achieving her academic qualifications, Alana held various positions in the State Government and worked exclusively in the human resources area. Alana was primarily responsible for the implementation and compliance of recruitment and selection processes for the appointment of staff.
Alana is very dedicated and thorough in determining criminal law matters. She strives to provide clients with a personalised, holistic approach in resolving their conflicts within the criminal law jurisdiction in WA.
Lawson Legal refers serious trial matters and appeals to Mr Anthony Eyers of Equus Chambers.
Anthony was born and educated in England. He was called to the English Bar by Inner Temple in 1994, before practicing exclusively in criminal law in London, Manchester and Liverpool until 2007. Since 2008 Anthony has practiced as a criminal barrister in Perth, Western Australia.
Mr Eyers has defended in more than thirty homicide trials, as well as representing accused persons facing allegations across every aspect of the criminal law spectrum. Anthony believes wholeheartedly in the presumption of innocence and the right of all individuals to receive a fair trial; in which the evidence against them is fearlessly tested to breaking point.
During the course of innumerable trials clients have included, amongst thousands of others, doctors, lawyers, politicians, policemen, accountants, organised crime members and hit men (as it proved).
Anthony has a particular interest in complex financial cases but prides himself in representing all persons facing criminal allegations with equal energy, concern and single-mindedness.
Anthony brings to bear unswerving attention to detail and total commitment to case preparation and trial conduct in seeking the optimum result for his client.
Anthony was named as the lawyer of the week by The Times in England several years ago and he is featured in the 2015, 2016 and 2017 Doyle’s Guide to The Australian Legal Profession as a leading criminal law barrister (as identified by his peers for his abilities and expertise).
